Pedestrian, 81, is struck by vehicles, killed on I-95

An 81-year-old pedestrian was fatally injured when he was hit by several vehicles on Interstate 95 in Southwest Baltimore on Monday night, and authorities were seeking help from witnesses and drivers in their investigation. Haywood Bass of Baltimore was struck by at least two vehicles and a tractor-trailer about 10:45 p.m. in the southbound lanes in the area of Caton Avenue, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority Police. All southbound lanes were closed as police investigated. Bass was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses and drivers who think they might have struck an object in the road are asked to call the agency's collision reconstruction unit at 443-324-8894.

Pasadena woman riding scooter dies in collision

A woman riding a scooter was killed when she collided with a car in Pasadena on Sunday night, Anne Arundel County police. Judy Lynn Wright, 50, of the 200 block of Southwood Road in Pasadena was thrown from her scooter after she crashed into a 2007 Toyota Scion near Magothy Beach Road and D Street about 7:30, police said. Wright, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to Baltimore Washington Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the Scion, Jessica Ann Wurtzer, 18, of the 600 block of D Street, was not injured, police said. Wurtzer told police that she had been heading east on D Street and stopped at the intersection with Magothy Beach Road and looked for traffic before proceeding. Wright's scooter struck the side of the Scion as it was in the intersection, police said.
